Rush tribute in St. Louis

A tribute band will be honoring a giant of rock, when Thunderhead comes to St. Louis.

The group is a tribute to Rush, and like many of today's tribute bands, seeks to do more than simply play the songs of the group it honors. Instead, Thunderhead uses the same instruments and equipment as Rush in order to literally duplicate, as much as possible, a Rush performance.

Billy Audrain emulates Geddy Lee, playing bass guitar, bass pedals, keyboards, and also handling duties as a vocalist. Matt Meyer, who plays guitar, has been a Rush fan since he was 10. Although he wasn't particularly interested in joining a tribute band, the chance to work with Audrain, with whom he had played before, and honor his favorite band was irresistible. Drummer Mike Ramsey rounds out the group, using a replica of Neil Peart's drum set.

The original Rush got together in 1968 near Toronto, Canada. The band found its greatest success in the early 1980s, when it released the album “Moving Pictures.” The group's best-known song, “Tom Sawyer,” is from this album.

A review of the tribute band says:

“This show . . . is the best Rush tribute I have seen. Great, great show.”

Thunderhead will be at The Pageant in St. Louis on August 28, at 8.00 pm. Poster printing can provide attractive advertising for this type of events, since fans often like to have souvenirs.
