A popular restaurant with shops throughout the nation is opening a second location in the St. Louis area.
Shake Shack, which was founded by Danny Meyer, a native of St. Louis, started as a hot dog cart in Manhattan's Madison Square Park in 2001. In 2004, the cart became a permanent kiosk, still located in the park—but the kiosk was the beginning of the Shake Shack chain. Modeled on the old-fashioned burger stands found along the highway, Shake Shack serves hot dogs, burgers, shakes, and frozen custard, as well as wine and beer.
The new Shake Shack will be located in the former Pei Wei's spot in the Ladue Crossing Shopping Center. No opening date for the new location has been announced as yet.
The chain prides itself on its efforts to be a good corporate neighbor, using sustainable materials, sourcing its ingredients locally, and encouraging recycling. The hamburgers are 100% Angus beef, with cattle raised humanely. The chicken served by the chain is cage-free and also all-natural. There are no artificial ingredients in their fries, and desserts are made with real sugar and milk provided by dairy farmers who avoid the use of artificial growth hormones.
