New housing tower set to open in downtown St. Louis

The first new housing built in downtown St. Louis since the 1960s is getting ready for its first tenants.

The structure formerly known as the Roberts Tower is now called the Tower at OPOP (Old Post Office Plaza). The building comprises 128 luxury apartments, as well as two penthouses, each of which will give their occupants more than 1,700 square feet of living space, and well as fantastic views of the city.

The tower totals about 140,000 square feet in area and soars 25 stories. There will be restaurant space and a leasing office located on the ground floor, while a banquet space will be located on the second. The second floor also attaches to the former Mayfair Hotel, now known as the Magnolia. The amenities and location of the building are ideal, so developers may want to work with brochure printers to have mailers created for local residents, inviting them to consider leasing when the building opens May 1.

According to the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis’ Doug Woodruff, the number of people choosing to live downtown has increased by about 500 individuals per year since 2009, and demand for housing in the area is growing. Woodruff added that historic buildings that can be converted to mix-used or residential spaces are growing scarce, but there is a lot of underutilized land that can be used for new construction.
