Lego on the way to St. Louis

Lego fans will have something big to look forward to in a few months, as event organizers recently announced that a convention centering on the colorful building blocks is coming to St. Louis. This is the first time the event will be held in the city.

According to the BrickUniverse LegoFan Convention, Queeny Park's Greensfelder Complex will be the site of a gallery where life-sized creations made of Lego blocks will be exhibited for fans to enjoy. There will also be a “building zone” where thousands of bricks will be available for fans to create their own projects. Still another area, the “Star Wars Zone,” will feature thousands of pieces of Lego based on the popular films. Organizers of such events can use banner printing to decorate the venue.

Rocco Buttliere, a Lego artist based in Chicago, will attend, bringing with him 50 of his creations. Among them are Lego interpretations of the Burj Khalifa and Westminster Palace. Also in attendance will be Jonathan Lopes, who is based in San Diego. His works include his version of the Woolworth Building, which stands eight feet tall. Lopes will be bringing 30 of his large-scale builds for fans to enjoy, and will be available to talk about his craft with convention-goers.

The convention dates are July 13 and 14, but tickets are already on sale. Organizers say the event sells out quickly, so interested parties should not delay in buying their tickets.
