Hip-hop event heats up in St. Louis

A lineup of hip-hop greats is coming to St. Louis.

The “Legends of Hip-Hop” tour features DJ Quik, Bun B, 8Ball & MJG, Scarface, Mystikal, and Juvenile.

DJ Quik is from Compton, California, and is known for his West Coast style. He has collaborated with stars like Snoop Dogg and his hits including “Jus Lyke Compton.”

Bun B is based in Houston, and started out as half of the UGK duo. He went solo in 2005, dropping his “Legends” mixtape, and following that up with “Trill,” which topped the charts.

Southern rappers 8Ball & MJG hail from Memphis and in 1995, they dropped “Comin' Out Hard,” which went to No. 40 on the U.S. Billboard 200, leading to a decade-long run of albums that charted.

Scarface is from Houston, where he worked with the Geto Boys. Ranked as one of the nation's best MCs, he mentored Ludacris early in the latter's career.

Mystikal was raised in New Orleans. He opened for Doug E. Fresh and Run-D.M.C., and was spotted by Leroy “Precise” Edwards of Big Boy records, who signed him. “Mystical,” his debut album, was one of the label's biggest successes.

A veteran of Southern hip-hop, Juvenile is from New Orleans, and began rapping when he was 19, hitting the big time in 1999 with his single, “Back That Thang Up.”

The Legends of Hip-Hop tour will play the Chaifetz Arena beginning at 8:00 pm on November 7. Poster printing is often used to publicize events like this.
