Forest Park Forever, a nonprofit, private organization that works with St. Louis to maintain the 1,300-acre urban park in the city, is creating its very first residency program this summer.
The group is now accepting proposals from those who would like to be considered for a summer residency. As many as three artists will each get $3,000, which they can then spend to create art for the park. They will work in the park itself, and receive an additional $1,000 each to pay for an event they may choose to celebrate the end of their residency.
There are no restrictions on the artists, except they are expected to work in the park for about ten hours per week for a period of three weeks, some time between May and September. They are asked not to alter the park permanently, but no other conditions are imposed.
Katy Peace, who is with Forest Park Forever, says the group is looking for artists from all backgrounds, whether they are painters, choreographers, sculptors or from some other field. Proposals are due to the organization by March 25.
Forest Park Forever could honor the winners by creating Banners that celebrate each of their disciplines. They could install them in the park, where the breezes would add to the effect by causing them to move.
