Mound art class to introduce kids to textiles
Mound locals can attend an educational program on fiber art at the Excelsior library branch in December.
Fiber Art for Families is a program that is part of the Hennepin County Library’s Hands-On Art series, a series where attendees can play with textile materials. Attendees will get to interact with textiles at every point of production. Families can work on an art project that they can bring home after the event. The crafts project is intended for preschoolers and toddlers. Other events in the Hands-On Art program include Crocheted Scrunchies and Bracelets, Needle Felted Bookmarks for Families, and Wet Felted Bugs.
The collaborator for this educational experience is the Textile Center, a facility that showcases fiber art and has several facilities for working artists. The center is home to an artisan shop, the Textile Center Pat O’Connor Library, and the Ellen Erede Wells Dye Lab. People can take classes at the art facility on stitching, weaving, rug hooking, and dyeing. Many events are held at the Textile Center, including trunk shows, art demonstrations, auctions, and informative presentations.
The family-friendly art program on textiles will take place on Saturday, December 7th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. There is no cost for families to participate in the Textile Center’s activity, and guests do not need to register. Art centers that organize similar children’s events may use printing services to make custom ads for their classes.
