University plans open house in Beltsville

A university with a facility in Beltsville is inviting prospective students and their parents to explore the college’s offerings.

The University of the District of Columbia College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (USD-CAUSES) is welcoming visitors who want to learn about the school’s courses. The university is a land-grant school, meaning it receives benefits based on the Morrill Acts of 1860 and 1892, which provided funding to colleges and universities of the time that taught practical courses in engineering, military science, science, and agriculture, as well as the classics. The acts were in response to the changes in society brought about by the Industrial Revolution.

Those who attend the event will learn about training, research projects, and available certificates. They will also be able to watch demonstrations of state-of-the-art technologies that improve the lives of area residents. In addition, the university will provide information on how to volunteer for land-grant activities, and allow students to begin the enrollment process in CAUSES programs.

The event will be held at the Firebird Research Farm in Beltsville, which will be open for tours. It is a chance to learn about the Urban Food Hub Model, which combats climate change while providing nutritional and global food security.

The event is set for October 21, from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. Firebird Research Farm is at 12001 Old Baltimore Pike in Beltsville. Universities traditionally publish Catalogs of their course offerings, and organizers of events like these can do the same using brochure printing.
