Special luncheon for Zeta Phi Beta sorority

A luncheon to honor the founders of a sorority chapter is coming up in Greenbelt, a short distance from Beltsville.

The Beta Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., is organizing a Founder’s Day Luncheon in honor of the chapter founders. The Rev. Chania Dillard, a Zeta member and the pastor of the Reid Temple A.M.E. Church in Glenn Dale, will be the guest speaker.

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded in 1920, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. It was a time of great change, and the five people who founded the sorority did so to have a mechanism that would work for positive change, encourage scholastic achievement, foster unity among its members, and raise people’s awareness of social injustices. They also believed that elitism had no place in the organization.

The local chapter obtained its charter in 1925, and is one of the most distinguished, as well as one of the largest, chapters in the entire sorority. The Beta Zeta chapter comprises multi-generational, diverse women with expertise in social work, government, education, medicine, and business. Events like this are ideal places for exchanging Business Cards.

The lunch is set for January 15, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm, at Martin's Crosswinds, located at 7400 Greenway Center Drive in Greenbelt. Admission for adults is $65, and for children under 12, the admission is $35.
