Beltsville area dads and grandads who love to learn about history will soon be in for a treat. In just under two weeks' time, they will be invited to take advantage of free Father's Day tours at the Riversdale House Museum in nearby Riverdale Park. Brochure printers are likely hard at work as staff members at this historic site get informational materials ready for visitors.
The Riversdale mansion, which dates back to the early 19th Century, was built for Flemish aristocrat Henri Stier and later became the home of George Calvert, a member of one of Maryland's most prominent founding families. The manor is well-known for its Federal-style architecture. Inside the home, collections of letters, Books, and furniture belonging to the Calvert family give visitors a good impression of what life was like in America's earlier days.
During the Father's Day event, trained guides will walk dads and their families through the house to ensure that they see all of its highlights. Attendees will also be encouraged to ask questions about the property and its former residents. After they have completed their walk-through of the mansion and grounds, visitors will be free to peruse the on-site gift shop.
The tours will run from 12:15 pm until 3:15 pm on Sunday, June 16. Although fathers and grandfathers will receive admission at no charge, other attendees over the age of four will be subject to a $3 fee.
