Jefferson area workshop to bring diversity to the garden
Jefferson green thumbs who have been considering the impact their garden may have on the local environment may find that attending an upcoming presentation can help to put their foot on the path to becoming more sustainable.
It will explore horticulture from an ecological perspective, and the use of native plants will be highlighted. Before the area was settled by a human population, it was home to a diverse community of plants, animals and other organisms. This event will explore ways that people can bring back some of this diversity, even if their plot is in an urban or suburban setting.
Subject matter experts Claudia West and Thomas Rainer will discuss how it is possible to create beautiful residential and commercial landscapes that incorporate communities of plants that as diverse as ones that may be found in the wild. They will explain the benefits of this from an environmental and economic perspective, and also provide details about how this can be a real labor saver as well.
Guests are welcome to arrive starting at 9:00 am to register for the lecture, which will begin at 9:30 am. It will be followed by a book signing, and a printer can supply promotional pens to give to everyone who attends this type of public function.
This opportunity to discover how to create a landscape that uses plant diversity as a guide will be held on January 25 at 1 Victory Avenue in New Orleans.
