Assistance sought for Jefferson area oyster shell project
Jefferson eateries are among the establishments that have chosen to get involved in a project organized by Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, and volunteers’ help is needed as well.
Coastal Louisiana is home to many ecosystems, and some of these have come to depend upon oyster shells to create reefs and other living space. The members of the public who register for the oyster shell bagging event will be doing a good turn for Mother Nature by helping to prepare the shells for their new life as part of a coastal reef restoration site. These will provide homes for the next generation of oysters and other shellfish, as well as fin fish, and they also help to protect the coastline from storms and other bad weather.
To participate in the work, each volunteer will need to sign a waiver and release, and the exact location where the project will take place will be given to each registrant closer to the date. Check in for helpers will start at 9:00 am, and the activity is restricted to those who are 18 years of age or older. Snacks and equipment will be provided.
A project like this connects the public with local eateries and the larger environment as well, giving everyone a chance to show some love to the natural world. A brochure printing company can prepare leaflets that provide further details about the initiative, and these can be sent out to local food service establishments to make them aware of the work and let them know how they can get involved.
This activity will be held on April 22nd at the Violet Curing Site in Violet. More details about the work can be found on the function’s event listing.
