Water meters ready to be replaced

The village of Hoffman Estates is now in the process of replacing all of the water meters in commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

The project is being handled by a partnership between the village, Professional Meters, Inc. and Siemens Industry, Inc. The plan is to install a new type of meter that will the village to read the meters automatically and remotely in a move that promises to make it easier for the village to give its residents better services and at lower prices. The new meters will also be able to send out alerts about leaks.

Every water consumer in the area will receive a letter detailing the procedure for replacing water meters. Officials from Siemens will be going from house to house to carry out the replacements. The village will send out Postcards to all the addresses to inform the occupants. Notices sent out in this manner often feature official Letterheads from the organization that is sending them.

The new water meters will be installed at no cost to the occupants. An adult is required to be onsite on the day of the scheduled replacement and stay there until the meter has been changed. The entire procedure is not expected to last more than 30 minutes. The installers will have a visible ID and logo on their uniforms as well as on their vehicles.
