The ‘Triple Cup’ of gymnastics is coming to the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates this spring.
Events will include the AT&T American Cup, an international invitational all-around competition, along with the Nastia Liukin Cup for Junior Olympians and the Elite Team Cup, for male junior elite gymnasts.
The AT&T American Cup, so named because of its current sponsorship agreement, began in 1976. It is part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around World Cup series, featuring gymnasts from previous international tournaments. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) governs the rules and competitions of gymnastics worldwide.
Over the course of the two days, the American Cup will take place on Saturday, and the Nastia Liukin Cup will be on the Friday evening. First held in 2010, the 36 participants will be divided evenly between junior and senior gymnasts. The Elite Team Cup is in its third year. Featuring nine regional teams, it will close the show on Saturday night.
The Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates is an 11,000-seat multipurpose venue built in 2006 that offers sports events, concerts, and family-friendly shows. Banners and poster printing for concourse displays are often used in arenas to advertise upcoming events such as this. The Sears Centre Arena last hosted the American Cup in 2009.
The event has been planned for the weekend of March 2 and 3.
