Gurnee to organize memorial 5K

Those interested in raising money for local organizations in Gurnee can participate in a 5K in November.

The 28th Annual Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot is a relaxed athletic experience where people can come together to support local causes. A portion of the money earned at the 5K will benefit the Jon Callaghan Memorial Fund, which is a group that donates to several non-profits. The fund has supported causes such as the Comer Children’s Memorial Hospital Cancer Research and the School District 56 Program for Learning Disabled.

Companies can help the turkey trot raise money by becoming sponsors for the 5K. There are unlimited Golden Turkey sponsorships available for $50, which includes benefits like being featured on an event poster during the race. Businesses that pay at least $100 can add their logos to the program’s commemorative tees. The highest tier is the Diamond Package for $1,000. All organizations must pay by November 10 to become a sponsor and should make their checks out to the Gurnee Turkey Trot.

The memorial turkey trot will be held on Thursday, November 24 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at the Gurnee Fire Station. Registration for the race will cost $30 per person, and all attendees must register by November 21. People who plan seasonal races like this can use flyer printing to raise their community’s awareness of the fundraisers.
