Medical facility to be added to children's center
A children's center in Gurnee is planning to add a medical facility that will help it serve its clients more effectively.
The Lake County Children's Advocacy Center, located in Gurnee, is a safe place for children who have been abused. Now, funds have been provided that will allow the center to add a medical facility to its structure. The center, which is funded mostly by donations, is associated with the office of the state's attorney.
Mike Nerheim, who currently holds the post, said many of the children who come to the center need some sort of medical treatment, which often requires that they leave the center. He added that having to go elsewhere for examinations and other procedures may increase the stress the children suffer, while the purpose of the center is to make their lives better. Giving them a place at the center for these procedures will reduce that stress.
Brochure printing may be used when improvements like this are made, since brochures can provide a detailed description of such projects.
The building was once a post office, and Nerheim said the new facility will probably be built on what used to be the loading dock. He also said that adding medical services to the center has been a goal for several years, but now the funding is available, thanks to money that has been included in the state's capital bill.
