Gurnee residents have fun at Gurnee Days

Gurnee's annual festival, Gurnee Days, took “Celebrating Heroes” as its theme this year.

This year's celebration, the town's 43rd, took place from August 6th through the 10th, in various venues around town.

Things got underway with a bicycle rodeo, followed later by a Gurnee Idol competition, games, food booths, rides, children's activities, and an open house conducted by the Gurnee Fire Department. There was a fireworks show on the Saturday.

The schedule of events was packed with a huge variety of things to do for adults and children alike. There was a concert in Viking Park, movies in the park, a farmers' market, an art show, and a run/walk. In addition to the Fire Department, the police and public works departments also held open houses. There were dozens of events to choose from.

Gurnee officials could build on this year's success in several ways. They could work with a poster printing company to create colorful posters to announce next year's festival. They could also work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents, including photos and a description of this year’s fun, and asking people to save the date next year.
