Gurnee Mills finishes renovations

Gurnee Mills mall finished a year-long revamp recently, and welcomed shoppers with a number of upgrades to improve the facility's appearance and efficiency.

Among the renovations made to the interior are the installation of new lighting, including LED lights that save energy, and signs for the interior of the mall that make it easier for shoppers to find specific stores. All the lighting is LED, including the skylights and chandeliers. The mall has been completely repainted, and new furniture and carpeting has been installed.

Krysti Kovarik, the mayor of Gurnee, said the mall looked entirely different, noting that the interior is brighter, with many wooden accents. She is appreciative of the renovation, since the mall is a major commercial draw within the village. She is also happy that the mall itself gave its tenants a great deal of flexibility with regard to designing their storefronts. Tenants can take advantage of situations like this to use graphic design to reconfigure their appearance.

Kovarik also said officials of the village are pleased with the mall's current occupancy rate. The facility sprawls across two million square feet, and is a destination for regional shoppers. TheRoomPlace and Dick's Sporting Goods both opened stores in the mall, where they will act as anchor tenants. She noted Gurnee Mill's performance remains strong in contrast to other malls in the area, some of which have requested substantial financial help from the municipalities in which they are located.
