Gurnee gets ready for annual celebration

Gurnee is getting ready for a popular annual event that celebrates life in the community.

Gurnee Days is hosted by the Park District, and is a full weekend of entertainment, music, games, carnival rides, great food, and a fireworks display, all designed for people of all ages. The event is unusual in that it takes place in a number of different venues, rather than being centered in one location.

Events kick off with a bike rodeo at Gurnee Fire Station #1 at 10.00 am Friday morning. Other events that day include storytime at the library, food booths, a beer garden, and rides. The day winds up with live music on the Viking Park Mainstage.

A golf tournament takes place Saturday morning, beginning at 7.00 am at the Heather Ridge Golf Course. A 10K, as well as a two-mile Fun Run/Walk, start at 7.30 Friday morning, at the O'Plaine campus of Warren Township High School. The Public Works Department, the Police Department, and the Fire Department will all be open, and there will be eating contests and live music on the Viking Park Main Stage. Fireworks are set for 9.00 pm.

Sunday's events include a pancake breakfast, a parade with a “Back to the Future” theme, a softball game, and a drama presented at Viking School. The fun starts Friday, August 7, and runs through August 9. Flyer printing can be used to create flyers for attendees at spread-out events like this.
