Gurnee folks get chance to outrun the cops
The Gurnee Police Department will be holding a family-friendly race in June to benefit local charities.
Outrun the Cops and Walk for Kids is an event where people can test their racing skills against real police officers. The proceeds earned at the race will support the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center (LCCAC) and other local organizations. Most of the race course will be on the Des Plaines River Trail, which has a crushed limestone path. Participants in the event may dress in running attire or wear robber costumes.
The LCCAC is an organization that assists children and teens who are victims of abuse by providing them with a safe space to share their stories without being retraumatized. The center also offers services such as counseling and hosts support groups. People interested in supporting the LCCAC’s mission can purchase a brick to contribute to the organization’s Healing Garden. There are four different brick sizes that contributors can write messages on.
The race will be on Saturday, June 10 and will begin at 8:00 am. The cost to join the 10K is $40, and the price of the 5K is $30. The registration fees will increase on the date of the police department’s race. Organizations that plan fundraisers like this may use flyer printing to raise awareness for their charitable events and causes.
