Gurnee approves facility to provide memory care

Gurnee, Illinois, recently approved permits that would enable the LaSalle Group LLC to build a ‘memory care’ facility at its Autumn Leaves complex, which is a 12-acre assisted living community in Gurnee.

According to reports, the site of the new facility is at Washington Street and Hunt Club Road, which was previously supposed to be a community of 58 single-family homes. However, those homes were never built, and the property is now available.

LaSalle has already built seven Autumn Leaves facilities in and around Chicago, which specialize in providing care to those with Alzheimer’s and other conditions that affect memory, such as dementia. There are other Autumn Leaves centers in Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Chicagoland area can support eight such installations because demographics show it has over 45,000 people age 55 and above, and approximately 1,400 of them have Alzheimer’s.

The memory care center will be a one-story brick building, with stone veneer and cement accents. It will have 42 units and a total of 46 beds; some units will have two beds, and baths will be shared. The building will also have common areas for dining and socializing, and each area will have its own distinct atmosphere.

Gurnee and LaSalle could work with brochure printers to put together a mailer, targeting older residents, that explains the benefits of living at Autumn Leaves.
