What's Happening in Waukegan, IL…

Fun play to be performed near Gurnee

A theatrical version of a popular television series will come to the Gurnee area later this year.

“Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood Live!” will be presented at The Genesee, a theater in Waukegan, a short distance from Gurnee. The play is based on the PBS KIDS TV series “Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood,” which was created by Fred Rogers Productions, which is also behind the immensely popular “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” The program ran from 1968 to 2001, and made its host a legend. Fred Rogers' program celebrated kindness, diversity, and acceptance.

Part of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” was the “Neighborhood of Make-Believe,” which is where Daniel Tiger's adventures take place. The characters in the play are familiar from the series: Daniel Tiger, “O” the Owl, Prince Wednesday, and Katerina Kittycat will be on stage, in an interactive presentation that is suitable for young children, but will be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The show uses musical numbers to focus on stories about learning, helping others, and building friendships.

The production uses the same gentle approach made famous by “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” to show how Daniel and the other characters, and by extension, the children in the audience, learn the skills they will need to prosper in school and life in general.

“Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood” will be presented on March 6 at 2:00 pm. The Genesee Theatre is on North Genesee Street in Waukegan. Poster printing can be used to create colorful publicity for events like this.
