Vero Beach celebrates beauty of waterlilies

From lotuses to native nymphaea, water lilies will take pride of place in an event that will celebrate the beauty and fragrance of these aquatic plants.

McKee Garden is marking the 20th anniversary of its Waterlily Celebration, and both day and night blooming species will be on display. It has been scheduled for mid-June, and general admission rates will apply.

The public will be able to enjoy species from all over the world, and they can learn how to incorporate them in their own home garden, even if it is as little as a tub on their apartment balcony. There will also be repotting demonstrations and other ways to learn how to give them top care. A photo contest is in the works, along with a crafters’ market, and plein air artists have been invited to create a masterpiece.

Many people might like to get gardening but are unsure about how to get started. Attending an event may help them to get their feet wet, and activity organizers can order signage and other materials for a function from a local poster printing company.

Vero Beach residents and visitors are on the guestlist for this special celebration, which will take place on Saturday, June 14. To allow the public to enjoy views of the night bloomers, the gates will open at 8:30 am.
