Those interested in running a race while helping a local cause can attend an event in Stuart this August.
The 9th annual The Furnace 5k and Kids’ Dash is an athletic experience that invites people to embrace the Florida summer heat by participating in a competitive event. Part of the money raised at the race will support the Treasure Coast Chapter of Girls on the Run. The racecourse for the event will take runners through the North River Shores neighborhood and by Fleet Feet Stuart. Anyone who drops litter during the race and dash will be disqualified from the event.
Girls on the Run is an organization that offers programs for girls that help them find their inner strength while becoming more physically active. There are many services offered by the group, such as Heart & Sole and Camp GOTR. Girls on the Run Treasure Coast is a group that has worked with over 3,000 girls and impacted 1,000 families. The lessons offered by the organization can also help girls work on their teamwork skills and emotional competencies.
The heat-themed racing event will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 6:30 am. Packets can be picked up a few days in advance at Fleet Feet Stuart. Children may pay $5 to enter the Kid's Dash. Those who want to join the 5k can pay $40 to run. Organizations that put together fundraising functions like this may use flyer printing to market their activities.
