Thirteen-year-old Rachel Goldzal, a winner on Food Networks television show “Chopped”, was a judge at a recent school cooking competition in N. Miami Beach.
The competition took place last week and consisted of teams each with three students and one adult. The teams were challenged to create a dish out of four surprise ingredients.
The competition at Scheck Hillel Community School consisted of 17 teams. They all had access to cooking utensils, electric burners, and an assortment of food supplies. The secret ingredients were jalapenos, tricolor potatoes, coconut, and corn. The winning team created a Spanish frittata served with coconut potato hash, served with a sriracha sauce.
The winning team was chosen by Goldzal and two other judges who made their decisions, taking into consideration taste, flavor combination, and creativity. A variety of prizes were given including restaurant vouchers and movie tickets.
The experience left the students smiling and with a sense of accomplishment. The head of the school, Vanessa Donaher, was pleased with the sense of community the competition created and how much support they received from the parents.
Perhaps on the back of events like this, many professional chefs likely learned in their youth that cooking and creating was something they wanted to do, so they started their own businesses working with Print shops for a unique Logo Design.
