An arts and crafts course is planning a stop in Fort Collins, and arts enthusiasts of all levels are being encouraged to come along for the day.

Flingin Pots Backyard Studio is hosting an event based around Raku, the Japanese technique of low-firing clay. Attendees will learn to fire clay creations until red-hot before placing them in containers with metals to add to the final appearance. The process affects the colors the metals produce due to the rapid change in air conditions.

The course will start with a demonstration from the instructors, followed by attendees picking clay pots and painting them. Students will receive one pre-made pot and one horsehair pot to fire in the facility’s kilns. Instructors will guide students through firing the pots to 1,800 degrees, before adding them to the post-firing chambers. Poster printing is a fantastic way to advertise events like this to the local community.

The class will end with a clean-up session after the firing has concluded. The firing process allows attendees to take their pots home the same day to show off to friends and family. Often, products made using this process end up being colours such as blue, purple, red, and yellow hues.

Flingin Pots will host the event on Saturday, March 23rd, beginning at 2:00pm and ending at 4:00pm. Guests are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early for check-in, and tickets cost $45 per person.
