A multiple-award winning actor will appear soon in Denver.
Billy Porter is bringing his “Black Mona Lisa Tour” to the Mile High City, one of 25 stops he will be making on his first true nationwide trek. Porter, who will be backed by a video installation and full band, will use song to tell the story of his life, including his solo career in pop music, the soundtrack from his television show “Pose,” and tracks from some of his work on Broadway.
Porter is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and made his Broadway debut in 1994 in a revival of “Grease.” He won a Tony in 2013 as Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Lola in the smash musical comedy “Kinky Boots.” The role also won him the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, and the Drama Desk Award in the same category. He won a Grammy the following year for Best Musical Theater Album, “Kinky Boots.”
On the small screen, he appeared in all three seasons of “Pose,” and was nominated three times for the Golden Globe, and won the Primetime Emmy Award in 2019. He won the Tony again in 2022, this for producing the Best Musical, “A Strange Loop.” In 2022, he moved into film, directing “Anything’s Possible,” a romantic comedy.
The multi-talented performer will be at Denver’s Buell Theatre on May 2. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to create advertising that will attract audiences.
