Kristin Chenoweth got her start singing gospel at her church. This experience ignited her love of performing, a passion that grew over time. In school, she took part in as many performances as possible, including regional theater, and graduated from college with a degree in musical theater.
Her intense training paid off, and in 1993, she landed the first professional role she auditioned for. In 1997, she won the role of Hyacinth in “Scapin,” a play by Moliere. She went on to make her Broadway debut that same year, starring in “Steel Pier” by Kander & Ebb.
Chenoweth became a major star in 1999, when she won the Drama Desk award and a Tony for her performance as Sally Brown in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” She went on to originate one of the leading characters in the smash musical “Wicked.”
Her credits are equally impressive in film and television, where she has appeared in more than 80 productions. A concert review says:
“She oozes raw talent and hones that with training into spectacular live performances where all she really needs to bring a crowd to their feet is her voice and the lyrics.”
