Fiddler's Green, an outdoor amphitheater in Englewood, about nine miles from Centennial, has reopened after extensive renovations that began in December, 2013.
Parts of the amphitheater were demolished, solar panels were added, and a living wall was created. This last addition stretches almost 750 feet, and is decorated with approximately 25,000 plants specifically picked to thrive in the arid Colorado climate. Other changes included reworking the concession stands, and redesigning the back of house to make it more efficient for artists and their crews to use the venue.
The Charlie Daniels Band headlined the opening show on May 24, called the ‘Volunteer Jam at Fiddler's Green’. The show was a thank-you to volunteers, with 1,400 tickets given to first responders, military personnel, American Red Cross workers, the National Guard, and state and city workers.
Acts at Volunteer Jam included Blackhawk and Outlaw, both country-rock bands, as well as Craig Campbell, a solo artist. Blackhawk, which began its set with a Native American dancing onto the stage in full tribal dress, got a huge response. Outlaw, which is comprised of many of the same members as Blackhawk, also enjoyed a warm reception. The hit of the night, not surprisingly, was 77-year-old Charlie Daniels. Even though it began to rain during his performance, most of the audience stayed and rocked right along with him.
