Soil workshop to dig deep

Anyone who enjoys gardening in Centennial has a workshop just for them.

Foothills to Plains Native Plant Master Program has organized an upcoming workshop on watershed health and soil chemistry. The course will discuss how plants derive their nutrients, including potassium, phosphorous, and nitrogen, from the soil, and how a change in the soil may force gardeners to change their methods, or even the plants they choose to nurture.

Participants will be able to learn what plants work best in the local ecosystem, thanks to volunteer Master Gardeners from the Master Program and from the Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners, who will be on hand to discuss plants best suited to conditions in Arapahoe County. Everyone is asked to bring a sample of the soil they are using in their garden so it can be tested.

The workshop will be held outside on an Open Space trail. Everyone should wear shoes suitable for the location and bring water, as well as sunscreen or other covering to protect from the sun. All needed materials for the class will be provided. Materials for events like this can be created by Print shops.

In addition, participants will follow health guidelines as established by officials at Tri-County Health. These include maintaining the proper distance from other students and always wearing a mask.

The class is set for May 5 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Cherry Creek Valley Ecological Park.
