Centennial residents recently had a chance to meet with city officials and developers, who described the potential redevelopment options envisioned for The Streets at SouthGlenn, a local shopping mall.
Sears recently closed its SouthGlenn store, and it's thought that Macy's may also close its doors fairly soon. The economic development manager of Centennial, Neil Marciniak, noted that major changes have occurred in retailing as consumer preferences have changed. If shopping malls are to survive in any form, Marciniak said, they also have to change, and perhaps include more than just retail shops.
Among the redevelopment ideas for SouthGlenn, which would almost certainly become a mixed-use development, would be to add apartments, specifically in the old Sears store. The Sears property is now owned by Northwood Investors, who might add as many as 800 housing units in the former retailer's space. They might also consider having some retailers move into shops on the ground floor.
Although Macy's hasn't announced any closing plans, its owners, Alberta Development Partners, are looking ahead, and have said they might consider using it for housing as well, though their figure was a more modest 400 units. They are also considering designating some of the property for retail and another portion for entertainment, such as a bowling alley. Developers on efforts like this have an opportunity to use Logo Design to create a new emblem for the project.
However, due to zoning laws, any changes would first have to win approval from the City of Centennial.Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
