Funky concert in Centennial area

Two classic funk groups will be in the Centennial area soon.

War came to fame in the 1970s with hits like “Why Can't We Be Friends?” and “Low Rider.” War was formed by producer Jerry Goldstein in 1969. He put together funk players from Long Beach, California, with Eric Burdon, formerly of the Animals. They released their first album in 1970--”Eric Burdon Declares 'War.'” The single “Spill the Wine” came from this album, and went to No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100, launching their career.

A review of War said:

“The concert was amazing. War had the energy of a group of 20 year olds. They played all of their hits and much more. If they were in town for additional days I would return to see them.”

War is bringing the Average White Band (AWB) with them. AWB, although a Scottish R&B and funk outfit, first got together in London in 1972. Like War, AWB was most popular in the 1970s, with hits like “Pick Up the Pieces” to their credit. Also, like War, they have never stopped. A review says:

“What a great show. They sound just as good as they did many years ago. We have seen them twice now and will probably see them again.”

The bands will appear September 11, at 6:30 pm, at the Levitt Pavilion in Denver, a quick trip from Centennial. When bands visit an area, flyer printing is a popular option to publicize the event.
