Centennial shopping center hosting free events

A Centennial shopping center, The Streets at SouthGlenn, is putting up decorations and getting ready for the holidays by offering patrons a chance to enjoy free events.

SouthGlenn spokeswoman Keri Navarette said she hopes that by holding a number of events people can attend for free, they will go on to shop in the center. SouthGlenn has strung lights in almost 300 trees, and put up other seasonal decorations.

Shoppers of all ages can enjoy ice skating on an outdoor rink, and children will be able to visit Santa to tell him what they want for Christmas. The center has planned events for each weekend in December, and hopes to do at least as well as it did in 2015, when December traffic to the center increased by 23%.

Saturdays will see free carriage rides, visits with Santa, and Dickens-style carolers strolling around to serenade shoppers. The singers will be at the center from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and carriage rides start at 4:30 pm and run until 7:30 pm, and both are free. The ice rink is open during most of the period, and charges $7 for adult admission and $4 for children.

The festivities started last Saturday, November 26 and run through December 18. Events like this can benefit if organizers work with flyer printing companies, who can create handouts with maps and lists of vendors to make it easy for patrons to find what they are looking for.
