Those who register for the From Dirt to Soil class will discover the ins and outs of creating a productive growth medium. It will have focus on urban landscapes, and it will utilize both soil biology and chemistry to do so.
The learners in the session will be taught about the physics of soil and how understanding this can lead to increased plant growth in a garden. The importance of a soil's pH and other chemical components will be discussed, and both micro and macro organisms, including bacteria, fungi, and worms will be reviewed. The activity will wrap up with an introduction to the art and science of composting, and everyone will have the chance to ask questions. The workshop will begin in the late morning and run throughout the noon hour.
