Centennial plans to celebrate National Night Out

Centennial is teaming up with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office to help residents celebrate National Night Out.

The annual event takes place in thousands of communities across the nation, where residents get together to meet and interact with local law enforcement personnel, so both citizens and police see each other as part of the same community.

Activities during the celebration have included block parties, parades, cookouts, potlucks, flashlight walks, ice cream socials, safety fairs, festivals, and poster contests – it is up to the community to decide. The aim of the event is to promote community building, and encourage partnerships between the police and those they protect, remembering that neighborhoods are better and safer when everyone works together.

The fun in Centennial is slated for Centennial Center Park, where the sheriff's department will have emergency vehicles, including a crash car, on display. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed toy to meet the sheriff's deputies, who will award special stickers to the animals. Any toys that have “injuries” will be bandaged by personnel from Centennial Medical Plaza.

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for purchase from Uncorked Kitchen, as will refreshments from Ems Ice Cream Cart.

Centennial's National Night Out is scheduled for this evening, August 2, from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm, near the park's splash pad.
