Officials of the City of Centennial are working on the budget for 2020, which is proposed at $102,400,000.
One of the most important issues the budget will address is safety for Centennial residents. To that end, the budget would provide funding to build 6,000 feet of new sidewalks throughout the city, as well as making improvements to Centennial Center Park, an award-winning space near city hall.
Matt Sturgeon, the city manager, is proposing the new budget. Other items in the measure include setting up a street fund earmarked solely for street-related projects, and totaling $14.1m. The proposed Lone Creek Trail would be built, at a cost of $3,560,000, and $2,220,000 will be set aside to fund the Center Park Master Plan.
The city also plans to add several new positions, including a Cyber Security Engineer, and a Junior Database Administrator. The former position carries a salary and benefits in the amount of $162,000; and the latter, which is part of the Office of Technology and Innovation, is at $108,000.
A new Human Resources position would be created within in the Arapahoe County Sheriff's with a $112,980 salary; the position would be filled by a civilian. The city is also providing funding for a new Neighborhood Services Position, an agency that would reach out to Centennial neighborhoods. The budget is scheduled for a vote on November 4.
