On May 24, hundreds of hopeful inventors and entrepreneurs lined up outside the Comcast Xfinity store in Centennial to pitch their ideas to casting agents for ‘Shark Tank’, the popular television show that gives people a chance to explain their ideas to potential investors.
People chosen in the Centennial casting call will appear on the show next year. Hopefuls came from all over the country, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Crosbyton, Texas, as well as Denver and other local Colorado communities.
Mindy Zemrak is the supervising casting producer for the show, and revealed that the number of people accepted for tryouts in Centennial was capped at 500. The casting associates were looking for people who are comfortable on camera. Although there are approximately 30,000 to 40,000 applicants every year, the show accepts only 80 to 100.
Zemrak said the turnout in the Denver area was good, and expected to see more than 250 pitches, which could involve between 400 and 500 people. She characterized the applicants as passionate, excited, and full of energy. She also noted that Denver has a lot of startups and technology companies, and can be considered a second Silicon Valley. That energy has translated into a lot of people coming to the tryouts for the show.
