Centennial area workshop to teach fundamentals of foraging

Mother Nature offers a bounty that is free for the taking, and a workshop on the agenda for the Centennial area will introduce these to the public.

A group of area future foragers will be hitting the fields and forests at Denver Botanic Gardens’ Chatfield Farms to learn about the world of wild Edibles. It will be a hands-on learning session, and much of the morning will be spent outside.

The workshop will kick off with a wild herb walk so the attendees can become more conversant with the edible and medicinal plants that can be found in their home area. After this, they will learn how to harvest them sustainably so they can be used in an assortment of recipes. Each participant will be walked through the process of preparing a wild weeds vinegar, and the function will wrap up with a meal where the foraged edible plants will be the stars of the show.

At the end of the class, the attendees will all go home with their vinegar as well as a list of recipes and ID sheets for wild plants. Handouts for any organized activity like this will be available at area Stationery printers.

This introduction to the joys of foraging for wild food is scheduled for the morning of May 21. The registration fee starts at $50 per person, and the workshop will begin at 9:30 am.
