Centennial area workshop to explore high-altitude growing

Centennial gardeners may find themselves facing a special set of challenges, and a local workshop will arm them with tips for meeting these head on.

The Denver Botanic Gardens serves as both a reservoir for biodiversity and a center for learning about the natural world, and it has organized a session that will introduce the ins and outs of growing food crops at a high altitude. It is geared towards the home horticulturist, and tickets are $59 each.

The function will introduce an assortment of topics that may be of interest to anyone wanting to maximize their vegetable and fruit harvest. The facilitator will discuss subjects ranging from choosing species and cultivar suited to local growing conditions to protecting garden beds from the wind and cold, crop rotation and other integrated pest management techniques, and seed saving. All levels of experience are welcome, and those who come out will have an opportunity to get to know their fellow green thumbs.

Workshops often benefit from the service of local Print shops. They can supply Copies of handouts and well as bound texts, certificates of completion, and even special small Corporate Gifts to give to each participant.

The Denver Botanic Gardens has added this workshop to its calendar for February 11. It is set to be offered at 1007 York Street in Denver.
