Bird watching is a popular pastime in the San Fernando Valley, and a walk is planned in Woodley Park as a great way to start the new year.
The walk takes place in the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Area. The bird watch walk is on level ground at an easy pace. The walk is designed for both beginners and experts, and is led by Kris Ohlenkamp, who is a biologist as well as an avian expert.
Those attending the walk are advised to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, and to bring jackets. In case of rain, bring umbrellas as well. Newcomers are always welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars, but in case a pair is needed, a request can be emailed to the San Fernando Valley Audobon.
Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Area is an easy drive from Woodland Hills, only a few miles away. The parking area is at Woodley, near the Japanese Garden area, and is marked as being for the wildlife area. The wildlife area contains a pond that attracts larger birds, such as egrets, herons, ducks, and geese. There are many other birds that call this area home as well, enough to keep experienced bird watchers interested.
Flyer printing is popular with events like these to promote an upcoming event in local venues. This event is currently scheduled on January 6, from 8 am to 11 am.
