Coding students were challenged to use code to create works of art, and now the winners will celebrate their victory at an event where their works will be on display.
The ‘Code Club Competition 2017’ took as its title ‘Create Art through Code’, asking students to code anything they could imagine.
Coding creates a list of instructions that computers need to perform actions. Without this code, computers could not perform tasks of any kind, since they are not capable of thinking for themselves.
The instructions for those working in Data Art were to create an image from input data, while Generative Art asked them to create visuals. Those working on Data Visualization were to create “usable visuals” such as charts or maps, complete with vehicles, while ‘Procedurally Generated Environments’ was the title of the challenge that asked students to come up with backgrounds or scenery for games. The last instruction was to use animation to create GIFs.
At the event, the entries will be displayed in the form of prints, as in an art gallery. Attendees will be able to run the programs and watch as they become active.
Members of the coding club are asked to wear their T-Shirts, and everyone needs a reservation. The event is slated for April 30, at the Computerwisekids Tech Center on Clarendon Street in Woodland Hills.
By working with a flyer printing company, organizers can create a handout to identify the art works.
