New home for Woodland Hills PO

The Post Office within Woodland Hills is set to be replaced by an apartment complex.

The lease for the building is due to come to an end in May 2017, so a developer could use catalog printing in Woodland Hills to promote apartments on the site in question. Local developer Amcal has expressed firm interest in the opportunity. Darin Hansen, a vice president at Amcal, has tried to allay local sensitivity and has told the Los Angeles Daily News:

“It’s really nice. It’s luxury apartments, not condos. This is a market-rate development. We will continue to work with the community.”

Amcal has performed a research study into local traffic movements. It has contended that at present, in excess of 3,000 vehicles are attracted by the Post Office on a daily basis. It has also estimated that 1,000 fewer cars would visit the site every day if apartments were located on the spot.

However, it has been reported that some consumers are likely to miss their community post office when it is gone. It was opened back in 1977. Fortunately, the loss should not be too severe because another building in the area should be found to house the service.

Amcal has decided to go ahead with an environmental review. One aim of the organization is to achieve a zoning change. To that end, comments from the local population will be taken into consideration.
