Santa Ana gets caliente at Cinco de Mayo festival

The Parks Department in Santa Ana is teaming up with Telemundo, DirecTV, ParaTodos, and other companies to produce the 17th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival.

The daylong party combines music and Mexican culture into one giant celebration.

The Flyers advertise a long list of musicians and performers for the event. Headliners include Diana Reyes, a Mexican singer who performs duranguense music, which uses synthesizers alongside brass instruments, and has earned three gold records. Fellow headliner Kevin Ortiz is a California native who was recently nominated for the Billboard Latin Music Award for best new artist of the year. Additional performances include Hnas, Arteaga, and Banda la Nueva Adventura.

Aside from the music, the festival will also feature a carnival with games, rides, and street vendors selling goods and food. Many different kinds of Mexican dishes will be available for purchase at the event, so attendees are encouraged to bring their appetites. The event is expected to draw more than 150,000 visitors this year.

It will be held on April 30 and May 1 along 4th St. and Bush St. in Santa Ana. Attendance is free, though costs for food, items, rides, and games depend on the vendors providing them. Anyone interested in more information is encouraged to visit the website or contact the Parks Department directly.
