Santa Ana’s own Airborne Systems North America is one of 18 companies that has been selected by NASA to receive a share of £4.9m funding towards an ambitious project.
NASA wants to capture an asteroid and to that end put out the word in March that it was looking for projects to fund that would help achieve this goal. In total, 108 proposals were received, and this was whittled down to the final 18.
Airborne Systems will be one of four companies to be studying options for an Asteroid Capture System. Its study will focus on fabricating and testing a proof-of-concept inflatable capture system. Other studies will focus on rendezvous sensors (two proposals selected), adaptation of commercial spacecraft to create an Asteroid Redirect Vehicle (four studies) and five proposals accepted to study partnerships for secondary payloads.
The Asteroid Retrieval Plan calls for a small asteroid or a piece of a large one to be put into orbit around the Moon. It is believed the information required to accomplish this will help NASA with the technology and techniques needed for its mid-2030s planned manned trip to Mars.
Stationery printing companies often play a role in the success of companies like the ones that successfully sought a share of NASA fund. Although selections will always be based on proposals, high-quality Brochures and Letterheads provide the first impression of a professional approach.
