Redondo Beach to dabble in pastel

Next month, the Pastel Society of Southern California (PSSC) will hold the PSSC Beginner’s Pastel Class for those interested in learning the basics of pastel painting.

The PSSC was founded with the purpose of bringing together pastel artists from all over Southern California, as well as to promote paste art and educate the public about it as a fine art medium.

The society also serves to foster artistic excellence in the medium by offering workshops, demonstrations, critiques, and technical resources. The beginner’s class happening in February is one such workshop created to encourage interest in pastel painting.

The class is designed for those who either have no pastel art experience, or those who feel like they need help mastering the basics of the medium. Several pastel artists will be leading the class, going over topics such as selecting materials, choosing equipment, and understanding color and value. Each student will take home a pastel painting of their own creation.

Local printing services specializing in flyer printing can help organizers who wish to advertise such events by distributing Flyers in the community.

The pastel workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February 10 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. It will be held at the Riviera United Methodist Church, which is located at 375 Palos Verdes Boulevard. There will be a $25 materials fee for the class.
