Redondo Beach PD to raise money with surfing contest

The police department of Redondo Beach is hosting a fundraiser in the form of a Surf Line Up competition.

The contest is open to all surfers, regardless of experience or expertise. Using a unique format, teams of surfers will compete for the prized ‘Golden Donut’ trophy. Money from the event will be divided among the WoundedHeroes of America, Special Olympic Athletes, and the Redondo Beach Police Foundation.

The event fulfills several objectives besides raising funds for the above mentioned nonprofits. These include promoting safety and enhancing the relationship between the Redondo Beach Police Department and the local surfing community.

The Redondo Beach Police Foundation partnered with several local businesses to make this event and the department’s outreach program possible. Some of these companies may be on hand at the upcoming competition, and moreover, they may be handing out Promotional Products.

A free T-shirt will be given to each registered participant as well as lunch. Sponsor supplied prizes will be awarded in addition to the Golden Donut Trophy. According to the press release, it will be a full day of fun with time for not only the competition and presentation of awards, but also for free surfing.

Registration can be accomplished at any number of local surf shops as well as at the event’s website, and ends tomorrow, May 2. The surfing competition takes place this Saturday, May 5.
