Families looking to celebrate the coming of spring should note that the Redondo Beach Pier will hold its 48th Annual Festival of the Kite next month.
Originally constructed in 1888, Redondo Beach Pier is considered a historical landmark, with the current seventh generation pier standing at 25 feet above the water and boasting the title of largest endless pier on the California coast. The pier is home to many community events throughout the year.
This festival will celebrate the joy of flying kites, and will feature prizes for highest kite flown and youngest kite flyer. There will also be a live music performance by the act 1969, as well as a live DJ spinning tunes. Other activities include a student demonstration from local dance studio Dance 1, and Craig’s Hot Dog on a Stick Eating Contest. There will also be various sponsor giveaways of prizes and Promotional Products.
The event will comply with social distancing guidelines, and face masks are recommended for all attendees. No alcohol will be permitted at the festival.
The Festival of the Kite is slated for March 13 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It will be a free community event courtesy of the Miller Children's & Women's Hospital and the Redondo Pier Association. Redondo Pier is located on 100 Fisherman's Wharf.
