Spring break is fast approaching for Oakland students, and many parents may be wondering what they can do with that free time. The Oakland Zoo may have just the thing they are looking for.
The zoo will be offering a day camp for kids. They will be given an opportunity to find out, up close and personal, about different aspects of caring for the animals residing in the facility.
The event, titled ‘A Day in the Life’, takes place over three days and is run as a series of workshops. The first day gives the participants a chance to see what it is like to be a zookeeper, the second day is for learning about the duties of a zoo veterinarian, and the third involves an animal researcher. Printing services can be used to prepare a variety of handouts and other materials to give to the kids who sign up for the workshops.
Parents who want their children to take part need to preregister them. The cost for the three days is $225 for current members of the Oakland Zoo, and $240 for nonmembers. There will also be a two-day workshop titled ‘Predator and Prey’. The cost for this will be $150 for members and $160 for those who are not.
The ‘Day in the Life’ session begins on March 28, while the ‘Predator and Prey’ gets underway March 31. More information can be found on the Oakland Zoo website.
