Oakland residents invited to achieve pickle perfection

Originally invented as a way of preserving cucumbers, dill pickles have become a well-loved condiment, and an Oakland workshop will give those who take part some skills they can use in their very own kitchen.

Elizabeth Vecchiarelli, who is the owner of PRESERVED, will be facilitating an event that will assist those who participate in becoming pickle pros. Members of the class will learn about the history of this condiment, as well as its nutritional value, and they will also have an opportunity to find out more about the lacto-fermented method of pickling vegetables.

Each person who walks away from the workshop will be given a recipe guide so they can try their hand at making preserves at home, and they will also receive a jar of freshy made New York deli-style dill pickles. The registration fee has been set at $45 each. An area Stationery printing company can provide printed Copies of recipes for an event like this, and can even laminate them to protect them from any splashes in the kitchen.

This class will equip those who take part with skills they can use to capture the bounty of summer, and has been scheduled for July 30 at PRESERVED, which is located at 5032 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland. More details can be found on the organizer’s website.
