Caring for other creatures helps kids to develop empathy and learn responsibility, and Oakland’s junior pet lovers are invited to attend a local summer camp all about animals.
The East Bay SPCA is hosting an assortment of summer camp options for local kids, and its “Paws and Claws'' week will explore caring for furry, scaly and feathery friends. It is meant for children entering first to third grade, and the program has been developed to suit this age group’s learning style.
The campers will learn about the responsibility that goes along with companion animal ownership, and to help them gain experience, they will each foster a pet plushie of their own. They will also socialize, make new friends, and take part in games and crafts. Opportunities will be provided for them to enjoy interaction with cats, dogs, birds, and reptiles.
